As we usher in the new year, we want to pause and reflect on the devastating bushfires in our state. The impact of these fires on local communities, wildlife, farmers, and businesses is beyond comprehension. We are especially thinking of the loved ones of farmer Max Hobson who lost his life.
Both David and Rachel – and everyone at LCV - want to honour the fact that the mental and emotional impact of losing your home cannot be overstated. It is also a very triggering time for people who have survived other bushfires, and we want you to know we are thinking of you too. Please take care.
There will be time for discussions about climate change, fire readiness and other things – we will be fulfilling our duty as crossbenchers to ask hard questions of the Government in the coming months - but for now, we simply send love to all affected and, enormous thanks to the many volunteers and firies who show up, even when many are themselves devastated. And a really special shout out our supporters who have been volunteering in the fire affected areas and those that have been affected.
Please take care and follow all the emergency advice. The fires season has really just begun.
Look out for each other and for our wildlife.
Stay safe and please reach out for the help available if you need it.
