Announcing our Candidate for Nepean By-election

Legalise Cannabis Victoria is proud to announce Renee Thompson as our candidate in the Nepean by-election.

Renee is a marriage celebrant, event producer, community advocate, performer, DJ, creative writer, storyteller, and public speaker dedicated to bringing people together and amplifying underrepresented voices.

Until recently, Renee worked in local government as a Community Development Officer, where she translated grassroots insights into impactful policies and campaigns. She played a key role in bridging the gaps between different communities, advocating for equity, visibility, and systemic change.

Renee has been an open and proud cannabis consumer since adulthood, embracing what she sees as the plant's genuine healing potential. She often describes CBD as her "secret weapon", especially when it comes to managing nerves around public speaking.

As a creative, Renee believes cannabis has played a meaningful role in shaping and supporting her artistic expression. She also finds it to be a powerful tool for enhacing mood, particularly when dealing with PMS and pelvic pain.

Beyond the medical and personal use of cannabis, Renee's environmental values align with the promise of hemp as a sustainable solution for the future.

Nepean has historically been a “safe” Liberal seat, but despite the Liberal opposition being in absolute disarray, this by-election will be dominated by conservative and far-right candidates. Many of these candidates stoke fear and division and are seeking to capitalise on the community's disappointment and disaffection with the major parties. But they offer only false promises and fear.

We can do better.

Legalise Cannabis Victoria is an alternative for good. We are a party of compassion and progress. We advocate for a kinder and fairer society and, for sensible cannabis law reform. And we will take the fight to the major parties and these troubling new candidates!
